About the YIP Project

“YIP – Your Ideas to Practice: Exploring all stages of a project life cycle to develop sustainable solutions for water conflicts” is a project within the framework of Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM for University Students – BWS plus, a program of Baden-Württemberg Stiftung.

As part of the project, up to 10 students from the SRH University Heidelberg and the partner university Universidad del Valle de Atemajac (UNIVA) (Mexico) will take part in short-term stays in Germany and Mexico as well as a virtual final conference with the Democratia-Aqua-Technica network.

The subject of the project is the implementation of short-term stays in Germany and Mexico supplemented by virtual events on the main theme of water resource management. The aim is to gain experience in intercultural project management at the interface between Water Technologies and Conflict Research. The project period starts in September 2021 and ends in February 2023.

As part of the YIP project, HSHD and UNIVA are jointly planning four project-based events:
Hackathon (online), Study Visit in Germany (SRH Uni Heidelberg), Practical in Mexico (UNIVA) and a final conference (online). The group of participants includes students from engineering and technical studies at the partner universities.

The students will develop innovative technical solutions for sustainable water resource management at Lago de Chapala and Rio Lerma, which contribute to the prevention and reduction of local conflicts of use. Together they will go through the complete cycle of a practical project in international teams and thus gain experience in intercultural project management under real practical conditions. The students are the main actors, while the teachers play a more supportive and knowledge-mediating role. The creative processing of the topics is carried out in a high make-specifically by the students. The teachers present different techniques and approaches, the choice and then implementation lies with the students.
